Abash Kumar posted IG, South Zone

December 14, 2009 08:47 pm | Updated 08:47 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Abash Kumar, an Indian Police Service officer, has been posted as Inspector General (South Zone).

His appointment follows the transfer of S.S. Krishnamoorthy on Saturday on the instruction of the Election Commission. The Opposition AIADMK had levelled a complaint against Mr. Krishnamoorthy that the rooms where three of its leaders were staying in Tiruchendur were “raided” by the IG.

Naresh Gupta, Chief Electoral Officer, said the Commission or the CEO or the District Collector or the Election Observer or the Returning Officer did not issue any orders for searches.

In a press release, Mr. Gupta advised the print and electronic media not to publish, publicise or disseminate the results of opinion polls conducted at any time in any manner after 5 p.m. on Thursday and till the closing of poll at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, the results of any exit polls should not be published between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday. Any organisation or agency conducting any opinion or exit polls, while making public the result, should indicate the sample size of the electorate covered by such polls and geographic spread of the survey.
