A report card of 4 major varsities

January 31, 2017 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - CHENNAI:

The state of higher education in Tamil Nadu, experts say, is dismal with a large number of faculty vacancies. During the last budget session, the government proudly said that the State’s enrolment ratio was almost twice the national average. But the state of the universities is not healthy. Political interference and controversies over appointments have held sway with the result that policies to improve college education are put on the back burner.

Four of the major universities in the State are headless. While search committees have been constituted for three of the institutions for law university no effort has been made so far to have a committee in place. The following is the report card of the universities.
