For the participants of ‘Kalakrithi 10', an inter-collegiate cultural fest organised by students of Alagappa College of Technology, Anna University, the event provided not just a platform to showcase their talent but also an opportunity to learn new skills.
On Friday, the day three of the event, the university campus wore a festive look with every nook and corner bustling with activity. While some of the participants attempted to pen poems, some tested their language skills by pronouncing tongue twisters in Tamil.
Students from various city colleges sent ripples of laughter through the audience with their innovative and spontaneous ideas in selling products right from pens to mobile phones. A training programme to teach the basics of ‘silambattam' was also organised.
N.Sanketh, a first-year student, said “I got the rare opportunity to learn this martial art. I practised a few moves for over an hour.”
A small gathering cheered S.Mathangi, another student, who tried her hands at pottery with the help of a professional from Dakshinchitra. “It was thrilling to make things out of clay in a few minutes. It demands a lot of concentration,” she said proudly holding a small pot.
These were some of the events organised in tune with this year's theme, ‘Tamil Folklore.' Competitions for those who type text messages fast were also held.
‘Kalakrithi 10', which would conclude on Saturday, was not all about fun alone. The students also contributed to the cause of child education by raising funds for two NGOs. Some of the other events that had enthusiastic participants from nearly 200 colleges include dance, light music, debate, photography and quiz.
