A total of 430 new cases of leprosy were detected during the first phase of the Active Leprosy Case Finding conducted from July 2 to 13. The survey, which was conducted in 87 high endemic blocks across 24 districts, screened 67,39,630 people.

According to officials, 6,74,630 children were screened through camps conducted at their schools during this survey.

Among the 430 newly detected cases, 120 were children.

Camps organised

As part of the survey, teams conducted 1,590 skin camps at these blocks.

The Active Leprosy Case Finding was conducted in blocks that had more than 10 new cases per lakh population last year. Health Department officials said there were three persons with deformities, while a majority had skin patches varying from single patch to multiple patches.

Once leprosy was confirmed, Multi-Drug Therapy was initiated for them. This would be followed by the second phase of survey from August 6 to 20 to mop up left out population.
