412 NEET coaching centres to be set up

3,200 teachers to be roped in from September, says School Education Minister

In a move to provide NEET coaching to students in the State, a total of 412 centres will be set up and 3,200 teachers will be roped in from the first week of September, said School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan.

He was speaking at the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of SRM Nightingale Matriculation Higher Secondary School on Monday. “Steps will be taken to provide coaching for IIT-JEE amongst others,” he said.

The Minister also said that skill-based courses will be made part of standard XII curriculum from next year. “The students will be equipped to get employment right after schooling. As degree holders are finding it hard to get jobs, the Tamil Nadu government is taking steps to change the scenario,” he said.

The Minister also added that smart classes will be introduced in more than 3,000 schools. “Besides computerised classrooms with internet connectivity will be provided for students of classes IX to XIIstudents learn their lessons easily,” he explained.

Mr. Sengottaiyan also said that girl students, in need of help, can contact 14417 — a 24-hour helpline. “The government has the responsibility to safeguard the girls who go to colleges and schools. Action will be taken in 24 hours,” he said.

P. Benjamin, Minister for Rural Industries, said that Tamil Nadu leads the Gross Enrolment Ratio. “The State leads the country with a GER of 46.9%,” he added.

Earlier during the day, the celebrations began with cultural programmes like dance, Villu Paatu and other cultural programmes. T.R. Paarivendhar, founder correspondent, SRM Nightingale Matriculation Higher Secondary School spoke on how the school began.
