40-year-old held for abusing a child

He’s been booked under POCSO Act

The Shastri Nagar police on Monday arrested a 40-year-old man for sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl who was playing near her house.

According to the police, the victim, a third standard student was cycling in front of her house on Sunday afternoon. Ravindran of Ellaiamman Koil Street, who came on the way took her to a nearby lane and sexually assaulted her. Some of the passersby heard her cries and rescued her from him. Ravindran was caught red-handed by the public and roughed up before being handed over to the police. The mother of victim lodged a complaint with the police.

Ravindran was booked under Section 4 (Punishment for penetrative assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012 and remanded in judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the MKB Nagar police arrested a 20-year-old migrant labourer who allegedly sexually assaulted a 11-year-old girl in Kodungaiyur. While the victim was walking near the EB office in Kannadasan Nagar, the youth touched her with an intention of sexually assaulting her. He was nabbed immediately and booked under Section 8 (Punishment for Sexual Assault) of POCSO. He has been identified as Govindakumar, 20, from Jharkhand and was remanded in judicial custody.
