4 kg gold seized at airport

Three persons were detained and 4 kg of gold worth ₹1.35 crore was seized from them at the Chennai airport, according to a press release.

On Sunday, Kalandar Irfan who had arrived from Dubai was detained on suspicion.

When officials checked, they found 258g of gold worth ₹8.59 lakhs.

In another case on Saturday, a Sudanese passenger Shahid Kamal Abdelgadir Moh, who also arrived from Dubai, was detained and questioned; officials got seven gold bars weighing 885g valued at ₹29.3 lakh. She was later arrested.

Earlier, on Tuesday, officials arrested Gagandeep Singh, who arrived from Dubai, for concealing 2.92kg of gold worth ₹96.5 lakh in two brake drums of SUV. Further investigations are on.
