February 16, 2014 01:42 pm | Updated May 18, 2016 08:40 am IST - CHENNAI:

Jewellery weighing 35 sovereigns kept in an almirah was stolen by culprits from a house in Chetpet on Saturday afternoon when the family had gone out.

Chetpet police said the incident took place at the residence of Sathyanarayanan (50) on Pillaiyar Koil Street when he and family members went on Saturday morning for a ceremony at a private college in Egmore where his elder daughter was studying. They returned around 3 p.m. to find the locks untouched but the almirah open and the jewellery missing. Sathyanarayanan, in his complaint, raised a suspicion that the culprits pushed a rod through an open window in the house to open the almirah.
