The Nungambakkam police have arrested three suspects, including a woman, for allegedly cheating an army personnel of ₹55,000 under the pretext of offering him an insurance cover.

Police said the complainant Saravanakumar, a native of Krishnagiri, serves in Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. A few months ago he received a call offering him an insurance cover of ₹3 lakh, on payment of ₹35,000 as processing charges, from a fictitious firm.

Believing the caller, the complainant paid ₹35,000 by cheque and transferred another ₹10,000 through net banking. Despite making the payment, Saravanakumar did not receive ₹3 lakh as promised. The phones of the fictitious firm’s staff were switched off.

Following a complaint from Saravanakumar, the police arrested Karthik, Sandhya Narayanan and Kanimozhi, all staff of the firm. The owner Arumugham is still at large. Further investigation is on.
