28-year-old man dies in police custody

He was grilled over robbery incidents

A 28-year-old man died in custody at the Neelankarai police station during interrogation on suspicion of involvement in thefts and robberies.

The deceased has been identified as V. Anthony, 28, a resident of Tsunami Quarters, Kannagi Nagar.

A special team led by the Neelankarai Crime Inspector Ranjith and three constables who were investigating a theft case, nabbed him on Thursday night at this house. The team also also nabbed his associate and both were taken to the police station. After a few hours, the police released his associate and continued to grill him. He complained of uneasiness and was taken to hospital, where he was declared as ‘brought dead.’

Later, talking to reporters here, Additional Commissioner of Police (South) M.C. Sarangan said that a judicial magistrate inquiry had been ordered.
