15 welfare boards computerised

The functioning of the 15 welfare boards, including the Tamil Nadu Manual Workers Welfare Board and Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board, was computerised on September 15, on the occasion of the birth centenary of the former Chief Minister, C.N. Annadurai.

A release from the Labour Commissioner said that till August end, 41,12,791 workers had registered themselves with various welfare boards. Financial assistance to the tune of Rs.203 crore has been distributed to 8,11,727 members of various boards.

The Labour Department bought 303 computers and the application software had been linked to the main server of the ELCOT in Perungudi. The ELCOT is also providing training to the employees of the Labour Department.

Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan inaugurated the computerisation programme. Labour and Employment Department Principal Secretary T. Prabhakar Rao, Labour Commissioner A. Sukumaran, Palm Workers Welfare Board chairman Kumari Anandan and Construction Workers Welfare Board chairman Pon. Kumar participated.
