A gang of 12 men which smuggled narcotic drugs from other States and sold them to the youth in the district and surrounding areas in Tiruvallur district. The police seized ₹20 lakh worth drugs from the peddlers.
Following an information received by Tiruvallur district Superintendent of Police R.V. Varun Kumar on the smuggling of contraband from other States, a special team mounted surveillance near Kadampatthur railway station on Sunday and intercepted four youth moving in suspicious manner.
On searching them, the police seized MDMA tablets, LSD stamps and methamphetamine which were procured from Tripura. The accused were selling to college students at railway stations and trains, the investigation disclosed. Based on their confession, eight others who were selling narcotic drugs and ganja near Tiruvallur and Ekatur railway stations were arrested.
The police seized altogether 26 MDMA tablets, which are called ecstasy tablets, 26 LSD stamps, Meth crystals, two kg ganja and 1,600 yaba tablets, used as party drugs. "Yaba tablet is a new entry in the market. It has been sourced from Tripura State. The main targeted clientele is college students," said police.
