100 sovereigns reported stolen

April 24, 2011 02:28 am | Updated 02:28 am IST - CHENNAI:

A jeweller lodged a complaint with the MKB Nagar police on Saturday that his bag containing 100 sovereigns of jewellery was stolen at a petrol bunk.

According to police sources, Padam Chand (29) of Madhavaram said that he purchased the jewellery in Sowcarpet.

On reaching home, he realised that the bag in which he had kept the jewellery was missing.

“Chand suspects that the jewels might have been stolen at a fuel station in MKB Nagar where he stopped to fill petrol. However, when police made enquiries, he refused to give details of the petrol bunk and withdrew his complaint. We have asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police (MKB Nagar) to get the complaint…we want to investigate the matter,” Joint Commissioner of Police (North) S.N. Seshasai said.
