This one is straight out of a movie script. A youth who went missing from home when he was 14, was reunited with his parents after a decade, thanks to the efforts of police personnel.
Ramachandran, a native of Tiruannamalai district, was living with his wife in Sithalapakkam near Pallikaranai. Since the couple had no children, Ramachandran adopted his nephew Sathasivam, who was born to his brother Viswanathan of Namathodu village in Tiruvannamalai district. At the age of 14, Ramachandran brought him home and admitted him to a school in Medavakkam in 2008. Sathasivam was in the ninth standard. On August 13, 2008, Sathasivam went to school but did not return. After a frantic search, Ramachandran lodged a complaint with the Pallikaranai police. Sathasivam had lost his memory in a road accident. Passersbys rescued him and admitted him to a home in Vyasarpadi. After treatment, he was shifted to the branch of the home in Villupuram in 2010 and one Govindasamy took him to Tondiarpet to raise him.
Now Sathasivam is a 24-year-old and drives a taxi. He struck up a friendship with Lokesh, a journalist in Kaladipet, and sought his assistance in tracing his parents. Both went and checked with the home in Vyasarpadi where he was given shelter earlier. They found a school identity card which was given for opening a bank account. This had the name of his father. They then approached the Pallikaranai police to trace his parents.
On the orders of Deputy Commissioner of Police, St.Thomas Mount, M.S.Muthusamy, Pallikaranai Inspector Albin Raj prioritised the investigation. Police found that his father Ramachandran had lodged a complaint in 2008 after the boy went missing. Police personnel brought Sathasivam’s parents to the police station. It was an emotional reunion. Both sets of parents also thanked the police personnel for their efforts.
