A 26-year-old civil engineer travelling on the Shatabdi Express was allegedly molested by a male passenger on Saturday evening. The woman is a resident of Bengaluru and works in Mysuru. She was returning home for the weekend, said the police.

In her complaint to the police, the victim said that she was sitting near the window in coach No. 7 and had dozed off. A male passenger travelling in the same coach, who was sitting next to her, allegedly groped her while she was asleep. “She woke up and called him out on his behaviour. Other passengers, however, did not intervene, but simply watched,” said the police.

Shocked and humiliated, the woman called her father and narrated the incident. Her father insisted on speaking to the male passenger. The man, after a quick apology, walked away and got off at Kengeri railway station. The complainant told the police that the man, while walking away, said, “Do whatever you want.”

Based on her complaint, the police have taken up a case of sexual harassment.

“We have sought copies of the reservation chart from the railway authorities and are also checking CCTV footage,” a senior police officer said.
