The Kothanur police have registered an attempt to murder case against a 27-year-old woman who allegedly tried to kill her eight-year-old son by force-feeding him a glass of water laced with cockroach spray on Friday.

The victim is recovering at the intensive care unit in Bowring hospital. He told the police that his mother also consumed the pesticide-laced water.

According to the police, the woman was unable to bear torture from her husband, who was allegedly a chronic alcoholic and would beat her up.

Neighbours, who found them unconscious, rushed them to Bowring Hospital.

The police have also taken up a case of attempt to suicide against the mother and are awaiting her recovery to take legal action.
