Investigators in the Church Street blast case are frustrated by the lack of a “strong or clear” leads even four days after the incident, according to a senior officer who is part of the investigation.
With little forward movement, police have decided to prepare a map of the area showing the entry and exit points to analyse those who visited Church Street on that fateful day.
The officer said that a team comprising two Deputy Commissioners, Six Assistant Commissioners and 26 Inspectors have been assigned to study the several entry and exit points.
Making the job tougher is lack of CCTV camera footage that focuses on the blast site. The team is obtaining footage from neighbouring shops to try and identify possible suspects. “However, much of the footage is not of good quality and we are using image enhance software to get clear images,” an officer said.
They will also match the sketch that was drawn on the basis of the description given by a witness, an autorickshaw driver, with images spotted on the CCTV footage.
The investigation team has received several calls from the general public claiming to have seen suspicious people moving in the area. “We are also analysing Call Record Details (CRD) of over one lakh calls generated from mobile towers in the neighbourhood, but there has been no progress so far,” an officer said.
