‘Why should we pay for someone else’s mistake?’

May 22, 2015 01:08 pm | Updated 01:08 pm IST - BENGALURU:

How much does it cost to give better marks another shot? Over Rs. 10,000 in some cases. Unhappy and agitated with the II Pre-University (PU) results, students queuing up to apply for photocopies, re-evaluation or re-totalling are willing to shell out as much as it takes just to prove that they are right about having done better than what the evaluators have given them.

But as the applications pour in, there is anger. “Someone else makes a mistake in evaluating the answer scripts and we have to pay a price for it,” said a parent.

A student who had come to the Department of Pre-University Education office all the way from Mangaluru, said, “I got 80 per cent though I had expected 90 per cent. I got photocopies of answer scripts of all the subjects by paying Rs. 504 for each subject. I have applied for re-totalling in chemistry, which cost Rs. 336, and I had to apply for revaluation by spending Rs. 1,260 though it was not my fault.”

Students who are convinced that their marks will be much more after re-evaluation or re-totalling than what they have scored now point out to the time they are spending running around for the work. “I have been waiting from the past three hours with my mother got get a single reply [from the authorities]. We have not been attended to at all,” said a student.

Another parent said, “What will those students whose parents cannot afford to pay for photocopies, re-evaluation and re-totalling do?”

What does it cost?

Fee for photocopy of answer script per subject: Rs. 504

Re-evaluation fee per subject: Rs. 1,260

Re-totalling fee per subject: Rs. 336

Re-evaluation fee is refunded if a student gets at least six marks more
