A ruckus at a pub on 100 Feet Road at Indiranagar over a plastic cup allegedly cost the management ₹3 lakh. The alleged incident took place on Thursday night when a 27-year-old software engineer and a male friend got into a fight with the pub staff following their refusal to give them a plastic cup, as its use is banned in the city. The fight devolved into fisticuffs, during which time other patrons in the bar left without paying the bill.
The Indiranagar police have taken up cases from both parties — the couple and the manager of Bob’s Bar.
In her complaint, the software engineer, who works at Whitefield, said that she and her friend Ajay Dillan, 29, had gone to the pub for dinner. The couple stayed till closing hour and paid their bill of ₹5,000. “We asked the staff to pack the leftovers, including the eatables and drinks, and also asked for a disposable plastic cup, which the staff did not have,” said the woman in her complaint.
According to the police, who pieced together the events of the night, when a pub employee refused to give them a plastic cup, the couple began to abuse him. “A heated argument ensued as the staff objected to their behaviour and asked them to leave the premises,” said a police source.
The manager alleged that Ajay slapped and kicked a waiter. His colleagues rushed to his aid. In the melee, someone touched the woman while pushing the couple out.
The couple went to the Indiranagar police station and filed a complaint against the pub staff and the manager, accusing them of outraging the modesty of a woman, assault and unlawful assembly.
The manager, Jagadeesh, 31, filed a complaint against the couple for causing a ruckus and assaulting the staff. He said that many other patrons were disturbed by the ruckus and walked away without paying their bills, which led to a loss of ₹3 lakh for the pub.
The police have sought CCTV footage for further investigation.
