GEPTIS (GIS Enabled Property Tax Information System) is a project that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) took up in 2017 to update its property tax database.
The civic body signed a memorandum of understanding with ISRO's National Remote Sensing Centre in December 2016. It made use of ISRO's geo-spatial technology to create the building / property inventory and property tax information.
The pilot project was carried out in Yelachenahalli ward during September and October 2017. Multi-resolution remote sensing data from two different satellites – CARTOSAT2 and LISS-IV – was used. The pilot revealed the feasibility of updating the property plots / building footprints using high resolution imagery as well as updating the attribute information with respect to usage, especially residential or vacant plots.
A second MoU was signed in December 2017, extending the project to all the 198 wards in the city.
