The Lokayukta police on Thursday gave an undertaking to the High Court of Karnataka that they would not arrest BJP national vice-president and former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in connection with the three criminal cases registered against him in connection with alleged illegal denotification of land acquired for the formation of layouts.

Counsel for the Lokayukta police said they would not arrest him till they file objections to the petitions filed by Mr. Yeddyurappa, who had questioned legality of three first information reports (FIRs). Since counsel for the Lokayukta sought 10 days’ time to file objections to the petitions, Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda, who refused to stay the FIRs, wanted to know from counsel of the Lokayukta police that what would be their stand on the personal liberty of the petitioner till then.

It was contended in the petition that the Lokayukta committed serious procedural lapses in registration of the FIRs.

The cases were registered based on the 2012 report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India finding fault in denotification of acquired land and allotment of sites by Bangalore Development Authority.
