January 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

Fifteen women were injured when they fell into a storm water drain after the adjacent compound wall collapsed, at Tavarekere here on Tuesday evening.

The women were participating in a temple festival at Mahadeshwara Nagar near Sunkadkatte. As many as 108 women had placed their ‘kalashas’ along a compound of the St. Philomena primary school as the idol of the deity was passing by.

After the idol passed by, a group of women went to pick up the ‘kalashas’ and that is when the wall collapsed. The women fell into the 7-ft drain.

The injured were rushed to hospital. Most of them escaped with abrasions but a few sustained injuries on the head. An investigating officer said: “The wall was a temporary structure made of cement bricks. It was built on the edge of the drain and may have been unstable.”
