Over 650 people participated in a walkathon to raise awareness on the importance of breast milk to save vulnerable babies who are deprived of it. The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Bangalore Junction and Gunasheela Fertility Centre. The Centre, in association with the Breast Milk Foundation, Bengaluru, had launched the city’s public human milk bank, ‘Aadya’, a few weeks ago.

“The Aadya Public Human Milk Bank is an initiative in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) Millennium Development Goals of reducing Infant Mortality rate,” stated a press release.

The walkathon also aimed at encouraging healthy donor mothers to come forward and donate excess milk for preterm and vulnerable babies.
