A group of around 80 villagers barged into the Alliance University campus in Anekal, ransacked the premises, and threatened security guards, following a fatal road accident allegedly involving a group of students, on Wednesday evening.

A security guard, Manivannan, in his complaint to the police said the mob smashed the window panes of four cars parked on the campus ground and ransacked the security room.

“They were armed with stones and logs and threatened the guards when they tried to stop them,” said the police. They also allegedly threatened the students on campus. “This has created a fear psychosis among the students,” Mr. Manivannan told the police.

The attack was sparked by the death of Muniraju, 30, a computer operator at the panchayat office on Tuesday.

While he was crossing the road on his motorcycle, he was mowed down by a car belonging to a student at the university. His driver, Rajesh, was trashed by passers-by.

Muniraju was taken to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
