Memories of the erstwhile Vijaya Bank, which was merged with Bank of Baroda this April, can now be refreshed at a museum dedicated to its history.
The Vijaya Bank Heritage Museum was inaugurated on Wednesday. It is located on the ground floor of Vijaya Tower, the headquarters of the erstwhile Vijaya Bank at Trinity Circle.
Jose J. Kattor, regional director of RBI Bengaluru, inaugurated the museum, which has a rare collections of photos through which the growth of the bank is showcased.
“Established on October 23, 1931, the erstwhile Vijaya Bank was one of the premier nationalised banks in the country. The bank had several milestones and had contributed significantly to the growth and all-round development of the country. Having a total business of over ₹3,11,337 crore as on March 31, 2019, the bank had been at the forefront in ushering a new era of growth and all-round progress. The erstwhile Vijaya Bank, along with the erstwhile Dena Bank, was amalgamated with Bank of Baroda on April 1, 2019,” states a release from Bank of Baroda.
The release further states, “The museum was established as part of a drive to ensure that cultural ethos and institutional memories of the erstwhile Vijaya Bank are valued, and carried forward in the bank.”
Dr. Sharat Shetty, grandson of the founder chairman of Vijaya Bank, (late) Attavar Balakrishna Shetty; Vranda Shetty Punja, daughter of the architect of the modern version of the bank Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty; Murali Ramaswami, executive director, Bank of Baroda; and Vikramaditya Singh Khichi, executive director, Bank of Baroda were present.
