Vartha Bhavan, whose walls are adorned with some wonderful paintings of the Father of the Nation, has gone a step forward by developing Gandhi Angala (Gandhi yard) in a small open space inside the building.
A life-size statue is the centre of attraction of this Gandhi Angala. The Father of the Nation stands elegantly without a stick, but having a folded newspaper in his right hand. The statue is made of fibre glass.
Besides the statue, there are two stone slabs, which are engraved with seven social evils and the 11 vows of Mahatma Gandhi. In the centre of the yard, there is a charaka made with stones. Gandhi’s messages on truth, non-violence and his other ideals have been engraved on rounded stone blocks and placed around the yard.
A wall facing the yard has two huge frames of Harijan and Young India, the journals brought out by Mahatma Gandhi.
“We thought of making use of the empty open yard in the ground floor of the building to highlight the ideals of Gandhi and asked Pratiroopi — a creative team — to develop a small theme park. The outcome is Gandhi Angala,” said Vishu Kumar, Director (Information).
After inaugurating Gandhi Angala on Friday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the department would be launching Gandhi Kanasu-Karnatakadalli Nanasu . The programme will explain how Gandhi’s dreams have been realised in Karnataka. “A documentary on Gandhi will be screened across the State throughout October,” said Mr. Vishu Kumar.
