Union to stage protest seeking PF benefits

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - BENGALURU:

The Karnataka Food and Civil Supply Corporation (KFCSC) Loading and Unloading Labourers’ Union has alleged that over 2,500 contract workers in 193 godowns across the State are deprived of provident funds benefits.

The union said that the regional office of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation was insensitive to the issue although labour laws were being violated blatantly. The union has planned a protest on Wednesday.

Union president G.R. Shivashankar said the corporation should ensure that loading and unloading workers working under various contractors in their godowns get all benefits as per labour laws.

“The provident fund contributions not been deposited with the EPFO since 2004. A majority of workers, who have served for more than 10 years, will lose several EPF benefits, if there is any discontinuity in depositing provident fund amount,” he said.
