Uber cab driver arrested for misbehaving with woman passenger

The alleged incident took place near Indiranagar

The Indiranagar police have arrested a 28-year-old Uber driver for allegedly abusing and threatening a woman passenger on Monday.

The passenger, Priyanka Arora, 32, had the booked the taxi from Murugeshpalya on Old Airport Road to Indiranagar. On the way, she asked the cab driver to switch on the AC, which he refused to do. He later told the police that he had requested her to roll up the windows before he turned on the AC, but she refused to do so.

In her statement, Ms. Arora alleged that the driver snapped at her stating that the car did not belongs to her father and abused her verbally. Unable to bear the humiliation, she asked him to stop the car, and later filed a complaint with the police.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case of criminal intimidation and arrested the driver, Shamsul Hasan, on Thursday. Hasan accused her of hitting him on the head when she told him to stop the car.

“We have recorded his statement and released him on bail,” said the police.
