The Mico Layout police have registered a case against an autorickshaw driver on aggregator Uber’s platform for allegedly sexually harassing a 45-year-old homemaker.
The alleged incident took place at Vijaya Bank Layout in Bilekahalli on Monday afternoon. The woman was to go to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike office. She had booked an autorickshaw on Uber for the commute, said the police.
In her complaint to the police, she alleged that soon after she got into the autorickshaw around 2 p.m., the driver, Darshan M.P., began to pass lewd comments. When she objected to his comments, he allegedly stopped the vehicle and tried to touch her inappropriately. Shocked by his behaviour, she got down from the autorickshaw and enlisted the help of passers-by who advised her to leave the spot.
The woman filed a complaint with the aggregator before approaching the Mico Layout police. She also alleged that the auto driver had taken her in circles making it difficult to identify her location.
Based on her complaint, the police have filed an FIR against Darshan charging him for outraging the modesty of a woman. “We are on the lookout for the accused,” said a police officer.
