Two-day children’s parliament begins

January 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - BENGALURU:

Child representatives from 16 districts across the State assembled for the children’s parliament, Rajya Matthada Okkoota Rachana Pratikriye, to discuss issues such as ban on sale of products like tobacco and alcohol, and harassment faced by girls in school.

The parliament was inaugurated on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, convener of the children’s parliament Bharath Kumar H.R. and representative of Bengaluru, said, “The right to participation is very essential for us as we know our issues better. We should also be recognised as a government entity while framing schemes for us.”

Deepa Hiremutt, deputy convener and representative from Dharwad district, said, “Our voices go unheard as officials don’t even attend our panchayats or grievances redressal meetings.”

The two-day campaign was inaugurated by Meera Saxena, member of KSHRC.
