Two cases of suspected dengue deaths were recorded in the city and nine new dengue cases were reported across the State on Saturday.
The current death toll from confirmed dengue in the State stands at 10.
Private hospitals in the city have been asked to declare dengue deaths only if the tests are confirmed by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) and the National Institute of Virology.
On Saturday, Manjula (26), a resident of Maruthinagar died at a private hospital here. Her blood samples have been sent to NIMHANS and the report is expected on Monday.
Tanveer Ali, a doctor at the hospital said, “The patient came from Kempe Gowda Institute of Medical Sciences hospital where she was diagnosed with dengue. She died of respiratory arrest, but we are yet to get a report confirming dengue from NIMHANS.”
Aftab Alam, a resident of Rishabanagar, too is suspected to have died of dengue at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar hospital. While the duty doctor said the death was caused by dengue shock syndrome, the medical superintendent said the lab reports indicated that the death was not because of dengue.
A press release from the BBMP said Alam died of viral haemorrhagic fever.
The BBMP has demanded an explanation from the hospital.
