Two labourers were charred to death in a fire at a waste cloth sorting unit at Suvarna Layout in Chandra Layout police limits on Monday. A neighbour who saw the blaze alerted the control room, and three fire tenders spent the better part of the night putting out the blaze.

Initially, it was thought that the unit was empty, but two bodies were discovered on Tuesday afternoon. The police identified the victims as Yogesh, 30, and Manju, 27.

According to the police, the unit was nothing more than a makeshift shed put up on a 100 sq. ft site of one Venkatappa. “An inquiry revealed that Venkatappa had rented out the site to one Naseer to run the business,” said the police. Efforts are on to track down Naseer, the police said.
