Two youths were handed over to the police on Wednesday for allegedly barging into a neighbour’s house and trying to rape her. The alleged incident took place at Hebbagodi.

Police said that the arrested men, Somanath (22) and Srikanth (24), had migrated to the city from Bidar. They are residing in a rented house in Maragindanahalli in Hebbagodi.

They were working as housekeepers in a private company in Electronics City.

Around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday, the duo allegedly barged into the house of their neighbour – whose husband was out on work – and attempted to rape her, said a senior police officer. The duo had locked the door from outside and gained entry through the roof. When the woman shouted for help, the duo allegedly attacked her with a club, said the police. They fled when neighbours rushed in after hearing the screams.

Neighbours caught them on Wednesday when they went to their house and handed them over to the police.

The genesis of the assault, say the police, were a series of quarrels over the past week. Somanath had an argument with the woman fought over a table fan she had borrowed from them. Later, Srikanth was accused of stealing a mobile phone from the woman’s brother.
