Two couples arrested for stealing in buses

Central Crime Branch sleuths have arrested two couples from Ramanagaram district for allegedly stealing valuables from passengers in crowded buses.

The accused — C.M. Shivakumar (28), his wife Shanthamma (35), Venkatesh (26) and his wife Shashikala (24) — used to travel in crowded buses from Ramanagaram to Bangalore and steal valuables including gold ornaments, wallets and mobile phones from passengers.

The accused were arrested while they were trying to dispose of stolen valuables.

The police have recovered 540 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs. 16.2 lakh from them.

The accused confessed that they were involved in eight cases reported in different parts of the city.

They have been remanded in judicial custody and further investigations are on to ascertain their involvement in other cases.
