Two persons were charred to death when the car they were travelling in caught fire after colliding with a bus on Hosur Main Road in the early hours of Sunday. Passengers of the bus, which also caught fire, had a narrow escape.
The deceased have been identified as Zabiulla, 24, who used to work in a real estate firm, and his friend Ismail, 25, both residents of Hosur.
According to the police, the duo were returning to Hosur from Bengaluru. Zabiulla, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the median. The car then jumped to the opposite side of the road and collided with a private bus.
On impact, both the vehicles caught fire. Most of the 19 passengers in the bus, belonging to Greenline Travels, were asleep at that time. They, however, rushed out of the bus within minutes. Some of them sustained minor injuries.
A senior police officer said the bus passengers tried to rescue the two people in the car with the help of passers-by, but could not open the doors as they were jammed.
Fire and Emergency Services officials said they were alerted around 4.50 a.m. Two fire tenders were deployed to douse the fire.
