A two-and-half-year-old boy drowned after he accidentally slipped into the sump of an under-construction house in Sampigehalli on Monday.

The incident took place around noon in Manjunath Layout in Nagawara under Sampigehalli police station limits.

The victim, Mohammed Arshan, is the son of Yaqoob Pasha. He was sitting next to the sump. Yaqoob, a push cart vendor, was busy at work when Arshan fell into the sump. Police said that the sump is around eight feet deep.

Yaqoob noticed his son fall and jumped into the sump. He managed to get Arshan out and rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police visited the spot. A case of death due to negligence has been registered against the building owner and a probe is under way, said a police officer.
