M.G. Road to be out of bounds for vehicles

Traffic will be banned in and around M.G. Road from 8 p.m. on December 31 till 1 a.m. on January 1, 2013.

Restrictions are needed to ensure public safety as a large number of people, motorists and pedestrians throng M.G. Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, St. Marks Road, Church Street, and Residency Road on the New Year’s eve, a press release said. However, essential services have been exempted from the restrictions.

Traffic will be banned on M.G. Road from Anil Kumble Circle up to Mayo Hall; on Brigade Road from Cauvery Emporium Junction up to the Opera Junction; on Church Street from Brigade Road junction up to the junction of Museum Road; on Museum Road from its junction with the M.G. Road up to its junction with Old Madras Road; on Rest House Road from its junction on Museum Road up to its junction on Brigade Road; on Kamaraj Road from Cauvery Emporium junction to Cubbon Road junction and Cubbon Road junction to Cauvery Emporium; and on Residency Cross Road from Residency Road to M.G. Road (Shankar Nag Chitramandira junction).

Parking of vehicles except those owned by the police and vehicles carrying essential services on duty is prohibited from 4 p.m. on December 31 to 3 a.m. on January 1.

Vehicles parked on M.G. Road, Brigade Road, Rest House road, Church Street, Residency Road and St. Marks Road shall be removed by the owner or driver before 4 a.m. on December 31, failing which they will be towed away by the police and fined.

Vehicles coming from Queens Statue junction towards M.G. Road after 8 p.m. on December 31 should take a left turn at Anil Kumble Circle, and take a right at B.R.V. Junction and proceed on Cubbon Road and join M.G. Road near Webb’s junction to go further toward Old Airport Road or Old Madras Road.
