Toppers share their strategies

A regular study schedule, solving model question papers and following a coaching schedule to crack national-level competitive examinations helped these students secure a top rank in the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) exam. Most of them, however, aim to secure a seat in the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and were awaiting the results of the Joint Entrance Test (Advanced) results.

Mayank Baranwal, a CBSE student from Delhi Public School (South), who secured the first rank in COMEDK with a score of 165, secured the 1,288th rank in his JEE Mains. “I am keen on joining an IIT. I have also appeared for other competitive entrance exams. I was expecting a good rank in COMEDK, though I did not expect to top,” Mayank says. He plans to pursue computer science engineering, focusing on cyber security and aims to work on ethical hacking.

Vishwajit Prakash Hegde, a student of Deeksha Centre for Learning, Kanakapura Road, who bagged the second rank, is not new to being a top ranker. He had topped the State in the SSLC exam with a score of 623 out of 625, and had obtained 98.33% in II PU. “I am waiting for my IIT-JEE results. Depending on the ranking, I will choose the college and the branch,” he said.

Rudrapatna Vallabh Ramakanth, a student of Sri Kumaran Children’s Home, Kanakapura Road, secured the third rank. He said that he was still in dilemma over whether he would take up engineering or pursue research. Asked about the strategy he employed while studying for the exams he said, “I studied a little every day, focused on my weak points. Once I overcame these, I gave equal time to each subject.” He attributes his success to his parents, friends and teachers.

Kirthi Rachakonda, a student of National Public School, Indiranagar, is elated that she secured the 4th rank. She was not expecting a score of 162 marks, even though she studied eight hours a day in the two months leading to the exam. Kirthi is keen on pursuing engineering at an IIT. She aims to be an electronic and communication engineer.
