The police have arrested three youngsters, including the son of an Assistant Sub-Inspector, on the charges of stealing laptops from PGs in the city and selling it online.

The accused have been identified as Chetan (son of ASI Nanje Gowda), Shravan and Mukthtiyar.

Chetan is an IT graduate and is working at a private firm, while Shravan, an MBA graduate and a native of Andra Pradesh, is looking for a job. Mukhtiyar is a computer dealer who used to dispose of stolen valuables.

According to the police, the accused used to hire rental bikes and move in areas with PGs and steal laptops and other electronic gadgets.

Based on a theft complaint, the HAL police checked the CCTV footage from a near-by area and got the registration number of the bike.

They approached the rental firm and using the call records provided, zeroed in on the accused.

The accused reportedly confessed that they would get rid of the goods in several shops on S.P. Road and also sold many on an online marketing portal.

Further inquiries revealed that the accused were operating since 2011. The police have seized 40 laptops and are yet to recover around 50 more.
