In what appears to be straight out of a crime novel, three cases, where bodies were found on the railway tracks, were closed after Unnatural Death Report (UDR) was filed, have been reopened and proven as murder by the Bengaluru city police. A seven member gang has been arrested in this connection.

The first murder happens in 2001, when one of the accused, Venkatesh, killed Yallapa for marrying his girl friend and harassing her. He took the help of his gang members Shekar and Kumar to execute the crime. The three strangulate Venkatesh on the outskirts of Kengeri and dump his body on the railway track to make it appear as an accident.

The railway police discovered the body and as they were unable to identify the victim, the case was closed as unnatural death. “The subsequent year, Venkatesh’s girlfriend fell in love with one Ramesh. Enraged, Venkatesh along with Shekar, Kumar, Nagendra and Raja and two others murdered Ramesh using the same modus operandi,” said Praveen Sood, Commisisoner of Police, Bengaluru.

In 2014, after a gap of 12-years, Ramesh’s brother Suresh got a hint that Shekar and his gang that murdered his brother. “He approached his friends Nagendra and Ganesh to plan a revenge, not knowing that the two were also part of the gang that killed his brother,” added the commissioner.

Nagendra and Ganesh informed Shekar about Suresh’s plan. The two were instructed to continue friendship with Suresh and invite him to a party on the outskirts of Kengeri. There, the gang strangulated him and dumped his body on the railway track. The case was also closed as UDR as the body could not be identified.

Three years later, on June 5, one Muniratna came to the Kengeri police station claiming that her husband, Suresh, who has been missing since 2014, has been murdered by a rival gang. “During investigation we nabbed Shekar, Venkatest, Kumar, Ganesh, Nagendra and Rajuand Nagendra, all residents of Kengeri,” added a senior police officer.

During interrogation, they confessed to killing Yallapa, Ramesh and Suresh. “The gang has been involved in other murder cases that took place in 2003 and 2013,” added the commissioner.
