Three workers were killed and over 20 injured when the centering of an under construction water tank, which was part of a Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) water treatment plant, collapsed at Jogappa layout in Amruthalli on Monday.

The labourers were working on the centering inside the 40-foot-deep tank when the centering material collapsed, the police said.

Police and fire and emergency service teams rushed to the spot and rescued around 20 labourers. Rescue operations are underway as more than 10 labourers are suspected to be trapped under the debris.

Senior police officials are supervising the rescue operation.

Amid the doctors’ strike, police are directing ambulance drivers to rush the injured to government hospitals and coordinating with the doctors.

Rural Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Hebbal MLA Byrathi Suresh, Seemanth Kumar Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, East Zone, and BWSSB officials have visited the spot.
