The Jnanbharthi police have arrested three persons for allegedly assaulting two students from North-East India over a trivial row late on Thursday night.
The accused have been identified as Lokesh, Raghu and Mohan Kumar, residents of Marenahalli, Chandra Layout and Bydrahalli respectively. All the three are fruit vendors.
The victims have been identified as Lal Mantuia (19) an engineering student of Ambedkar College and Lal Hmangaisia (19) a student of St. Joseph College in Shanthinagar and natives of Mizoram.
According to the police, the victims were returning to their hostel in Papa Reddy Layout at around 11 p.m. when the accused passed comments and a heated argument ensued. The three accused beat-up the students and escaped.
The assault came to light after Lal Hmangaisia approached the Jnanbharthi Police Station and registered a complaint against the accused. Swinging into action, the Jnanbharthi police arrested the trio. An assault case under section 307 of IPC has been registered and investigation is underway.
