A dream property is fast turning into a nightmare for a software engineer who, after returning from his native town in Mandya district, found that a group of people had moved into his apartment as tenants without his knowledge.
Sravan Kumar, 42, has approached the police for help accusing the man he had contracted to renovate his house of cheating. The police, however, believe that the builder may have sold the unit to multiple people.
According to the police, Sravan purchased a penthouse at Sai Flora apartment complex in AECS Layout in Chinnapanahalli for ₹26 lakh in December 2015. In December 2018, he hired a contractor to renovate the house so that he could move in. After giving the contract, he left for his native place in Mandya.
When he returned on January 22, he was shocked to find tenants in his house. On being questioned, they informed that they have a rental agreement with Harisha, who claimed to be the owner of the penthouse.
Sravan approached the HAL police and filed a complaint of cheating and trespass. “We have asked him to produce the original documents and deeds to the penthouse,” said a police officer.
Preliminary inquiries by the police revealed that the builder had executed a sale deed with Sravan. However, the builder has given possession of the same property to Harisha, and a few others.
“We are also questioning the builder to ascertain who has cheated whom,” a senior police officer from HAL police station said.
Harisha, too, has been asked to submit the documents in his possession.
