The team from Presidency School, Nandini Layout, came from behind to win the Bangalore regional round of the multi-city The Hindu Young World Quiz 2013 here on Thursday.

The team from Presidency, comprising Nagendrakumar Jamadagni and Nihal T., was trailing the team from Teja Vidyalaya, Nalagonda, Andhra Pradesh, by 21 points until the final round of quizzing. Nagendrakumar and Nihal held their nerve to give the right answer to two questions, narrowly winning the contest by two points.

The Teja Vidyalaya team, comprising V. Dhanush Reddy and P. Vikram, were first runners up.

“We are extremely happy. We thought we will end up second-best. We took calculated risks in the final round and that worked in our favour,” said Nagendrakumar, a class 9 student aspiring to work at MIT.

Nihal admitted that he was tense at the beginning of the final round. “We decided not to look at the scores and just go for the answers. Our strategy yielded the desired result,” said the boy, who aspires to become an automobile engineer and work with Lamborghini.

Dhanush and Vikram, the “small-town boys with big dreams” were disappointed. “Our lack of knowledge of Bollywood music cost us the winners’ trophy,” said a disappointed Dhanush.

The winners received Rs. 10,000, trophies and certificates from The Hindu , and a host of goodies from sponsors. They also qualified to represent Bangalore at the All-India Grand Finale that followed the regional round.
