Four days after a Tanzanian student attacked by angry mob in Soladevanahalli police station range, senior officials led by Director General and Inspector General of Police Om Prakash, and City Police commissioner N.S. Megharik visited Ganapathipura where the alleged attack took place to supervise the investigations.
Police Commissioner Megharik confirmed that five persons from Ganapathipura were arrested in connection with the attack. The arrest was made based on CCTV footage. He further said more arrests are likely in the case.
The arrested persons have been identified as Lokesh Bangaru, Venkatesh, Saleem Pasha, Bhanuprakash and Rahmatulla.
The victim, a BBM student and her three friends were allegedly attacked by an angry mob after a 35-year-old female pedestrian was knocked down by another car belonging to Sudanese student.
The mob beat up the students and set their car on fire. The incident came to light on Tuesday when the victim approached African association following which a complaint was raised to Tanzanian Embassy.
The police later called the victim to record her statement based on media reports and picked up few suspects on Tuesday.
Meanwhile AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi sought a detailed report about the incident from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
