Tanzanian girl alleges assault

Three days after some African nationals were attacked in Soledevanahalli following a fatal accident involving a Sudanese national, four persons have been detained on suspicion of molesting and stripping a 24-year old student from Tanzania that night.

On Wednesday, a chilling account of Sunday night’s incident emerged when the girl narrated her ordeal, and that of her two friends, in her complaint to the Soledevanahalli police.

The unsuspecting Tanzanians had reached the spot, near Hesaraghatta, almost half an hour after the accident in which a 35 year-old woman was mowed down. They were surrounded by a mob that assaulted them and tore her clothes, she alleged in the complaint.

A local Good Samaritan offered his T-shirt before the group took refuge in a BMTC bus, but were corned by the mob, she added. Her ordeal ended only after a group of four locals stepped forward to form a human chain around her before leading her to safety.

Police have booked a case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) against unknown persons and detained four suspects for questioning. They were picked up based on CCTV footage from in and around the area. Police took the girl for a medical examination and recovered her torn cloths.

The Tanzanian embassy expressed concern about the attack.
