Suspended VTU V-C moves High Court

March 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - Bengaluru:

H. Maheshappa, who was recently suspended from the post of Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, on Monday moved the High Court of Karnataka questioning the suspension order.

It was contended in the petition that the Governor, who is the Chancellor of State-established universities in Karnataka, had issued order of suspension without considering his request for one more extension of time to submit his reply to the notice issued to him based on the report of a committee that enquired into allegations of irregularities and illegalities in the university.

He had not replied to the notices despite two extensions granted earlier.

Justice Raghvendra S. Chauhan, before whom the petition came up for hearing, has asked petitioner’s counsel to produce the copy of email that was said to have been sent to the Governor’s secretariat seeking extension of time on March 14, the day on which the suspension order was issued.

Dismissed

The High Court on Monday refused to grant anticipatory bail to two travelling ticket examiners (TTE) of South Western Railway, against whom the CBI had registered a criminal case for cheating several job seekers by creating a fake website of the Railway Recruitment Board.

Justice A.V. Chandrashekara, in his order, said the custodial interrogation of accused-petitioners, Hanumanthapppa and R. Pradeep Kumar, is an absolute necessity going by the magnitude of the allegations. After going through the case diary produced by the CBI, the court noted that the allegations cannot be termed as insignificant as incriminating documents were seized from their residences.

Maheshappa contended that the Governor issued suspension order without considering his request for more time to submit his reply
