Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, a 32-year-old man killed her at Upparpet in the wee hours on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mahadevi (28), who was married to Muthappa. The couple were from Raibag in Belagavi and were both working in a hotel here in the city.

The Upparpet police said that on Monday night, Muthappa came home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with Mahadevi. As the couple fought, Muthappa reportedly, in a fit of rage, picked up a stone slab from the kitchen and hit Mahadevi’s head with it. Mahadevi, police said, died on the spot.

Though the incident reportedly occurred at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, it came to light at 6 a.m. when the couple’s neighbours noticed Muthappa’s blood stained clothes. They immediately informed the police, who arrested Muthappa.

The body of the deceased has been sent to post mortem and investigations are on.
