The police arrested a Sudanese national who allegedly changed the validity date on his residential permit in an attempt to escape the clutches of the police and Foreigners Regional Registration Office who have been cracking down on foreigners for overstaying their visas.

The accused, Abdel Monim Issamedidin Abdalwhab Mohammad, 25, was staying in Geddalahalli. He had come to Bengaluru on December 1, 2017, on a short-term business visa.

Abdel’s permit was valid till May 17, 2018. “He had forged the original residential permit altogether with the use of a computer with the validity date altered from May 17, 2018 to August 16, 2018 which did not match the records with the FRRO,” a senior police officer said.

A senior official from the FRRO lodged a complaint with the Wilson Garden police who registered an FIR and booked Abdel for cheating, forgery and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
