A third year engineering student was stabbed to death, allegedly by his classmate, after the two got into an argument over attendance shortage in class on Wednesday afternoon.

Both were students of the Acharya Institute of Technology, near Peenya First Stage.

Manchan Singh (21), a resident of Delhi, had slapped Jayaprakash on campus during their argument earlier in the day. After other students intervened and prevented the two from getting into a full-fledged fight, the two had returned home.

At around 5.30 p.m., Jayaprakash, along with a few friends of his, visited Manchan Singh at the room where he was put up along with other students off campus. Police sources said that according to eyewitness accounts, tempers rose high and Jayaprakash used a kitchen knife in the room to stab his classmate in the stomach.

The other students rushed Manchan Singh to the N.N. Hospital, about a kilometre away.

However, he died within an hour. The case is being investigated by the Sondevanahalli police. Police said that Jayaprakash has been arrested.
